Presentation of the SumUp Mastercard

The SumUp bank card is a Mastercard that allows you to easily spend the money from your SumUp terminals.

To learn more about the SumUp solution, you can read our detailed article on SumUp.

Normally, the money from your SumUp goes to your bank account in 2 or 3 business days. This delay could be long for small merchants with sometimes very tight cash flows. If you collect on a Friday on your SumUp terminal, the funds transfer to your bank account only on Wednesday. Banks do not make transfers over the weekend.

Now, with the card, you can spend your funds the next day. Thus, the collections of a Friday are accessible from Saturday via the SumUp card.

This is the main interest of this card: having access to your funds more quickly.

This will be useful for merchants really in a hurry to get their funds. In a vast majority of cases, the 2-3 days waiting for a transfer are very acceptable.

How much does the SumUp card cost?

The card is free to order and use in the UK or abroad. No fees for using it. SumUp will charge 2% of the amount for withdrawals beyond 3 per month.

If you are already a SumUp customer, order your card. It will cost you nothing and can help you out in an emergency.

The card’s features.

It is a classic prepaid Mastercard payment card to which SumUp has added modern functionalities popularized by neo-banks.

A Prepaid SumUp Card

You cannot spend more than the money you have on your SumUp account. It is a prepaid card with systematic authorization.

A Card Managed via the SumUp App

If you lose your bank card, you can quickly block it using the SumUp app or your SumUp dashboard online.

Card Activation

The card is delivered with a balance of £1. Thanks, SumUp! To activate it, you need to make a transaction with one of your SumUp terminals.

After activating your card, all your collections will go onto the card instead of your bank account like before. You can change this setting at any time but do not be surprised to wait for a transfer.

To switch back to transfer mode, it is very simple:

  1. Go to the SumUp Card tab
  2. Enter the amount you wish to “Transfer” in the “Overview” tab.
  3. Confirm

Can SumUp replace my bank?

Almost. The SumUp Pro Account allows you to obtain a card, an IBAN, and an interface to manage your transfers.

So, it is a real bank account that will enable you to manage your transactions. You can issue and receive transfers from your SumUp-associated IBAN. Free and unlimited.

The SumUp Pro Account is convenient and will meet simple needs if you are a small entrepreneur, for example. However, if you have more complex needs, you might prefer other more traditional banking offers. To learn more, you can read our full review of the SumUp Pro Account.

Our Verdict

The card is not essential. Its only interest is to allow you to have access to your funds more quickly.

The next day instead of 2-3 business days later. It’s a small plus, but it’s not revolutionary. However, the card is free, so don’t deprive yourself of getting it.
