SumUp Terminal Features

The SumUp Terminal is the bigger brother of the SumUp Solo. It is autonomous, equipped with a printer for card receipts and unlike the Solo, it offers a very large touchscreen the size of a smartphone with the entire SumUp application directly accessible.

It is particularly distinguished by its size, its large screen and its ability to access the entire SumUp application suite on the payment terminal. You can then use the SumUp POS application directly on the SumUp terminal screen.

What are the benefits of the SumUp Terminal?

The SumUp Terminal offers total autonomy. You don’t need a smartphone, a tablet, a printer, or even any additional tools to manage the register. In addition, it is equipped with a multi-operator 4G SIM card and its shape greatly facilitates use on the go. It is a perfect cash register tool for nomadic merchants and artisans, for food trucks or markets.

  • Complete autonomy : works without a smartphone or tablet
  • Built-in printer : provides instant paper receipts
  • Intuitive interface : smooth navigation thanks to the HD touchscreen
  • Reliable Connectivity : Automatically switches between Wi-Fi and 4G for a stable connection
  • POS features : product management, sales tracking, employee profiles
  • Rugged design : Impact-resistant Corning® Gorilla® Glass display

What are the disadvantages of the SumUp Terminal?

In short : The Terminal is more expensive and less compact than the other Solo or Solo lite models.

The SumUp Terminal is slightly more expensive than its little brother, the SumUp Solo (+printer): £169 vs £139. It is also heavier, larger and therefore certainly more cumbersome. If you plan to also use a tablet to manage the register, we therefore recommend using the SumUp Solo Lite or Solo with Printer (to print card receipts). Read our review of the SumUp Solo with Printer.

Otherwise, that is, if you prefer to manage everything from the reader: the SumUp terminal is certainly the best standalone Android reader.

Comparison vs Square Terminal and Zettle Terminal

We compared the reader to its friends from Square and Zettle, which offer very comparable offers: no commitment, no subscription, purchase of the reader and a fixed commission of 1.69% (1.75% for Square).

SumUp-Terminal-vs-Square-Terminal-vs-Zettle-Terminal

VS Square Terminal

✅ SumUp Advantage: Integrated multi-operator 4G SIM card ; more mobile-friendly shape.

The Square Terminal and the SumUp Terminal are similar (in appearance): touchscreen, integrated printer, integrated cash register, and fully autonomous. But the Square Terminal only works with Wi-Fi, whereas the SumUp Terminal also includes a multi-operator 4G SIM card. Furthermore, the Square Terminal’s cubic and triangular shape limits its use at the counter.  These details make all the difference for professionals on the go, at markets, or in food trucks.

Price-wise, both are around £160, but SumUp offers promotions more often.

VS Zettle Terminal

✅ SumUp Advantage: All-in-one terminal with integrated printer, more economical and more robust

The Zettle Terminal is more expensive and comes in two parts: the reader and a base with a printer. The total price quickly climbs (around £250 compared to £169 for SumUp). In addition, the Zettle’s battery life is more limited unless you leave it permanently in its base. The SumUp Terminal is therefore easier to carry, easier to use, and more economical to purchase.

Our verdict

The SumUp Terminal is designed for merchants looking for a complete, standalone, and professional POS solution. Its HD touchscreen, integrated printer, and POS features make it a versatile tool, ideal for boutiques, restaurants, food trucks, and salons.

If you need a more compact and economical device, the SumUp Solo with Printer remains an excellent alternative, offering the essential features in a lighter package. Ultimately, the choice between these two models will depend on your specific needs in terms of mobility, features, and budget.
